And refinish a couple old pieces of cast iron. Best guess is that the pan is was made i n the 1920s? It has the -O- which means it was made in Ohio, but at the top, not in the center. The pot I’m even less sure about. Probably the 40s. But either way, they’re things I know I will hold onto for the rest of my life. They’ve been around a lot longer than I have, and they’d better last a lot longer than me.

Excellent project.  Expect waves of lurky people to start making offers on them.

Enjoy! I had great luck with oven cleaner and sealed plastic bags when I did about ten pieces last year. Although if I find any other good pieces at thrift stores or wherever I’ll probably try electrolysis

I have my grandmother’s 12" and 4" cast iron (broke the handle off the 8" in college) Can’t believe these were passed to me 30 years ago my mom doesnt know what she has been missing with her "new" cookware!

W ho knows, pretty soon I may need to sell everything I can. But all my cast iron stays with me.

I hope it doesn’t come to that.  We are more resourceful than we might think.

I have a Griswold cast iron skillet from the 1930s.

Lots of people just don’t get “built to last.” Even some people who are built in Ohio. But some of us do.

Excellent! I want to get some vintage iron at some point.

First time I cooked a steak with cast iron I had a friend coach me who went to culinary school. He had me get the oil and butter smoking hot before throwing down the meat. It’s a little strange getting a pan that hot as any non-stick wouldn’t take the punishment.
